Hi I’m new here!

im wondering if anyone’s ever showed a dairy/beef cross?
im going to have a jersey simmental cross, and was hoping it would be ok to show..
I’m worried about it not having enough hair to be able to work with and fluff up.

How big of shows are you planning on going to? Is it a market steer or a breeding heifer?

Market steer. And not big shows, probably only one of the 4H shows.. or the end of the year show.
Do you have pictures of your steer ? It really depends on the genetics whether or not he can fluff.

No I don’t, he’s supposed to be born in around April March! the 4H where I’m located said even if it’s born around that time it’ll be fine to start in September when the year starts again.
Lol. I guess I didn’t catch the going to have part😂

How tough is your competition at your fair? At ours you have to have a REALLY good steer…
Was it’s dam really fluffy? If so you have better chances. And if you have something fancy like a cool calf room..

Oh he wouldn’t be going to the fair, just a few shows and then the sale show, we have a show and then the sale around here.. Dam is pretty fluffy in the winter but that’s to be expected.. I should look at the sire again. The fair competition is tough, the other 4H shows are pretty lame actually, only around 4 people do steers in the club and none of them are that great lolol.
