Hello, I'm from NW Minnesota. i have 70 acres im planning on putting some cows on. The land i have does have a fairly large pond but is in CRP right now and comes out in 18. Does anyone one have advise for someone in my position? Any good books i should read? I do have a couple of people i know who raise cattle and i will talk with them but its good to get advise from lots of different sources. Thanks in advance.

Work for one of your neighbors and get a feel for raising/taking care of the cattle before you jump into it. Have to evaluate the amount of time you have to deal with them and that will dictate what kind of operation you have also. Read a couple of books, and magazines also to learn from others experiences. Try magazines such as Acres USA, Stockman Grass Farmer, and look at their "bookstore" lists. Go to the library and check out books on cattle raising.
