Bottle VS bucket

4256 Views 2 Replies 3 Participants Last post by  empire
I was wondering if anyone out there has used the buckets with the nipple for calf feeding? I have only ever used the bottle and am new to raising calves. Our herd was bought about a year ago and so this is our first time raising calves. Besides the one calf that we have below. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

My grandpa didnt like the buckets because the calves would tip them or push the off the nail lol
Bucket training calves will save time. When doing a couple calves, bottles are a great option. When trying to feed 20+ calves in a short period of time, buckets are the only way to go. When I worked on a big dairy in high school we had about 50 bottle calves at a time. For the first few days of their lives, they were on bottles. After about 4 or 5 days, we bucket trained them. They were in hutches and there were pail holders so the calves couldn't spill them.
