Hi I'm from Iowa live on a farm with 34 acres. Currently have 2 goats, rabbits and a hog finishing building. Looking to possibly start raising some cattle, have always raised hogs so this would be a new adventure for me. Was kinda leaning towards one of the miniature breeds.

Yup was thinking lowline also. Have a two year old daughter that could show at local fair in couple years. Think they can show them in a open class. Me and wife have never been around cattle so there size is why we would be starting with miniature breed. What about mini Hereford or dexter? These would also be a source of meat for our freezer so want good quality meat animal.

I agree, perhaps

cross some dexters with lowlines?

the trick is going to be finding some priced right.

keep an eye on the auction at Kalona. mo

http://www.dextercattle.org

quite a few good looking dexters for sale on their site 2.

hmmmmm...maybe find some smaller Jersey cows and cross em with lowline?

NICE thing bout lowline is they are Angus....some folks are trying to moderate their cow size now...thus a pretty good seedstock market for lowline bulls.

on mini Herefords I always worry bout their dwarf gene.
