Hey guys! Exactly 80 days ago today, my beloved cow Mabel, lost the first baby she ever had after an 8 hour labor caused by a breech oversized bull calf, that also cased
a prolapsed uterus and uterine tear. The vet gave her a 50/50 chance of making it through the night. I nursed her back to health, pumping her up with antibiotics, probiotics, magnesium and potassium, and fresh apples daily for over 4 weeks until she was pretty much back to normal. A week from today i find out if she will be able to have another calf. Fingers crossed that she will be able too, and that we won't have to butcher her. This cow is a big part of what inspired me to go on in school to become an Ag Teacher and FFA Advisor. She has taught me discipline, responsibility, and what hard work really is.

So sorry about the loss but GREAT JOB at nursing her back to health! How will she be bred and who cleared her to get pregnant?
That's really great news! Great job and best of luck! Prayers for an easy conception and delivery! LOW BIRTH WEIGHT BULLS! And watch her carefully at calving. :)

Thank you! We are using artificial insimination. Hereford bulls with low birth weight and a 4 star in calving ease. She will be checked by the guy that is doing it, beings he has been doing checks for many years and will be able to tell if there is hope.
